Magnum - Micha Bar Am

ISRAEL. West bank of Suez Canal. The last morning of the day of withdrawal by Israeli troops from the banks of the Canal, after a long night around the campfire and in accordance with the disengagement agreement they withdrew. January 1974.

This photograph leaves me with a feeling of irony. Those chairs were once occupied and now that they are empty, they are facing one of their own burning down. The people that had sat there before must have had a parallel vision when looking into the flames. This photo shifts the poles of my brain; where people become objects and objects become the living. Prolongued use of crystal meth creates that illusion and military occupation makes it a reality.
